For IDEA, that is some the more popular and most used languages. Others broaden their focus and try to support as many languages as deemed reasonable by its developers. Some are heavily focused towards a specific language like Spyder for Python, or Android Studio for developing on Android devices. Unlike editors, IDEs offer you a complete suite of tools you’ll need to develop your apps. Fully, it stands for Integrated Development Environment. An IDE on the other hand, is a full on Development Environment (which is what the DE standfor). Some text editors do allow you to install plugins to get semi-IDE-like functionality. Mostly syntax highlighting and stuff, nothing fancy. If you’re a KISS kind of person just looking for a plain editor, then I can already tell you this isn’t for you (it is an IDE after all).įirstly, if you’re new to this whole mess, an code editor is basically a souped up text editor with some basic tools for writing code. So what is IDEA Ultimate? It’s an IDE developed by JetBrains that offers some the most useful, integrated tools that you as a developer will often find your self searching, downloading, and installing for any other IDE. Also there are lots of ‘which editor/ide is the best’ articles out there with varying opinions and when searching for the best tools I always left them with more questions and even more confused than when I started reading. I write this opinion piece because this is an IDE that I actively use and am very excited about. Just to be clear, I’m not getting paid nor was I asked to write this by any party.
